Description. The temporal fossa holds the temporal muscle and presents great variations of size and shape according to the species, in relation with the chewing mode. It extends dorsally and rostrally to the auriculomastoid region. It is made of the parietal bone, the squama of the temporal bone and a little part of the frontal bone; it is limited outside by the zygomatic arch.
